Art History ⧚ Julie Vayssière

16 Sep 2015

For the first presentation of her performance "Art History" in Iran (after the Ricard Foundation in Paris and Schaufenster in Sélestat), Sazmanab artist-in-residence Julie Vayssière chose to work the way she always does; by asking questions from those who live and work in her immediate environment. What is at stake for her is to draw a line between everyday life and art. Art History, using the simplest forms, strives to catch and deliver the points from which an artistic vocation can emerge. Vayssière's performance was performed by Atiyeh Torabi and Erfan Nazaryanpour.

Julie Vayssière was born in 1979 in Toulouse, France. She lives and works in Paris. Her work consists of photographs, videos and text taken from streets, vitrines, websites, her close friends and family. She prefers to make things simple, using ready-to-use materials in ordinary and undramatised ways. Vayssière can be seen as an artist who duplicates our commonplace surroundings; combining marketing language with conceptual processes, advertisements with intimate interviews, and redefining minimalist poetry.

The visit of Julie Vayssière to Tehran was made possible through the generous support of Institut Français.
