flüchtig ⧚ Katharina Stadler

14 Sep 2012 - 17 Sep 2012

The project ‘flüchtig’ [volatile/fugacious] aimed to explicitly follow the paths which were taken by previous visiting artists and curators on site. During the two-week residency at Sazmanab in Tehran Katharina Stadler walked those paths as to search for previously noted moments of inspiration and asked the (obvious) questions on the spot. Instead of attempting to leave this trail she intendedly looked at her temporary surroundings as others have done before. In her opinion, despite and because of this seemingly pre-outlined course of one’s stay a certain diffusion and volatility of the moment characterised each residency.

This volatile character of each residency was made tangible through Polaroid photographs and sound recordings. The aim of the show, therefore, was to trigger a discussion of possible perceptions, advantages and superficialities of each residential visit at foreign art platforms.

Katharina Stadler is a Vienna born conceptual artist, curator and founder of ‘Concept and Theory – Tbilisi’. She studied Music, Theater and Cultural Communication studies at Humboldt University in Berlin, graduating with a thesis on the interconnection and opposition of voice and silence as worship in Augustine’s writings. Since 2010 Katharina is based in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she has been running the Informal Master Programs at the Center of Contemporary Art from 2011 to 2013. Since 2011 she has also been teaching both art and visual anthropology students and conducting workshops at different locations.

The visit of Katharina Stadler to Tehran was made possible through the generous support of Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur (BMUKK).
