Wiki-Women-Middle East

31 Mar 2016

On the occasion of Women’s History Month 2016, Writing Middle Eastern Women into History Initiative (WMWH) launched Wiki-Women-Middle East, a series of Wiki Editathon gatherings around the globe to add profiles of Middle Eastern women cultural and social art practitioners to Wikipedia. While volunteer editors could join this ongoing collective effort remotely at their preferred time and space, on March 31, 2016, pilot programs took place in four locations: CultureHub in New York City (5-8 PM), WMWH member spaces in Herat from (8-10 AM), Tehran and Mashhad (10 AM - 12 PM), and the core hub, The Arab American National Museum, Annex Building (8 AM - 8 PM). Participants brought their own laptops and power cords. The program was free and open to the public. Each pilot session started with a Wiki-editing training.
