TVDinner is an iteration of OtherIS video series focused on the US-sanctioned countries — Belarus, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Myanmar/Burma, and Zimbabwe. TVDinner launched on July 30th 2011 with a screening at Immigrant Movement International in New York City. A screening of videos related to Iran opens at Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art in Tehran, August 19th through the 31st. It will continue in New York at cafes and restaurants that serve food of these countries through November 2011.
The opening event will be streamed online from Tehran, for the first time live, expanding the audiences beyond borders and inviting everyone to join in.
Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art presents Iran Channels of TVDinner curated by Sohrab Kashani and Sandra Skurvida.
Featured artists are: Mehrdad Afsari, Bahar Behbahani, Negar Behbahani, Gohar Dashti, Samira Eskandarfar, Ghazaleh Hedayat, Amirali Ghasemi, Farid Jafari Samarghandi, Behnam Kamrani, Simin Keramati, Gelare Khoshgozaran, Khosro Khosravi, Nosrat Nosratian, Neda Razavipoor, Hamed Sahihi and Rozita Sharafjahan
OtherIS is an ongoing project. To date, it comprises selections curated by Amirali Ghasemi (Iran), Sohrab Kashani (Iran), Shireen Naziree (Burma); Lena Prents (Belarus); Aneta Szylak and Hiwa K. (Iraqi Kurdistan); and Sandra Skurvida (Iran and Iraq). Selections by Abir Boukhari (Syria), Yu Yeon Kim (North Korea), and Vitshois Mwilambwe Bondo (Congo), as well as selections focused on Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, and Zimbabwe shall be added through 2012.
Curator Sandra Skurvida will be present via Skype during the opening of TVDinner Tehran at Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art.
